What should develop or happen during the next 10 years to make Bethel Park an even better place to live, work and visit?

I would like to see a better rec center like USC has. A swimming pool would be nice too. I'd rather pay to stay in Bethel than go to a neighboring community. I'd like to see the municipal take faster care of the roads during the winter. Stop signs seem to be optional everywhere in Bethel, there needs to be more cops posted, or speed humps in the roads.

Bethel Park needs a facelift for younger families living in the community. By this I mean an updated community center with a community pool. Better parking for the community center. You have one way in and one way out and it gets very dangerous in the evenings when classes are letting out and there is only one way to go. Bethel Park also needs better baseball fields and needs to take care of them. Our fields are an embarrassment especially when you go to other communities that are poorer than BP that have great baseball fields and facilities. I would also like to see more sidewalks added. We have the T that runs through are community and not enough sidewalks to walk to it

I would love to see the area between Evey Hardware and the Cat Clinic on both sides of Rt 88 get a major facelift. Some of the businesses are well kept, but others are very run down. It would be a great area to be able to walk from business to business. Make it an area that new businesses want to open a storefront, as long as it is not another mattress or auto parts store. We could also use more options for restaurants and entertainment overall in BP.

I would love to see a better way to handle the traffic through the High School. There are neighborhoods on all sides of the school, people who need to use Blackhawk Drive to get to work, etc. without taking a long detour... Blackhawk should not just be a concern for the students, but also all the residents of Bethel Park who need to use it.

i agree w/ previous comments. our community/rec center is outdated and insufficient as compared to similar communities in the area. a BP swimming pool would be a great addition.
we have many fields, but the amenities are far less than the communities our teams play regularly (dugouts, concessions, bathrooms and - most of all - quality of playing surface).
a walkable business district is missing. although there aren't too many areas in BP that can accomodate this, the stretch of 88 between Kings School and Evey may work. Another potential area would be between Lemonheads and Lytle T stop, although that is broken up by housing.

I would like to see sidewalks all over Bethel Park. Not only would it vastly improve the recreational aspects of the community it would help to make the neighborhoods more neighborly. I live on a nice street, but barley know who lives there beyond a couple surrounding houses. I grew up on s street with sidewalks and that made a huge difference, especially when I was a kid. Also, I think encouraging more pedestrians, and maybe even using some of the road surface to create sidewalks would help reduce the speed of the traffic going through Bethel Park. The streets are wide, and allow for faster driving. I people had to be more aware of their environment, I think that is a problem that could resolve itself.

Walkable business district by the T at Lytle. All the bits and pieces are there. There needs to be a main street similar to Mt. Lebanon. The houses need to be bought out and a well planned and comprehensive business area needs to be implemented. Take inspiration from Oakmont. Walkable streets with not more than three story buildings. Consumer business below, small business office space and apartments above.

I highly agree with others. A community center with a pool is a must! USC and Mt Lebo both have amazing ones. Also agree with the addition of sidewalks. I love taking my toddler for walks in her stroller but it’s very difficult when there aren’t any sidewalks and cars fly through the neighborhood to go from one side of town to the other.

As stated many times above sidewalks are needed I have started a new thread dedicated to walkability.

I walk to the T every day for work and I always say one of these days I'm going to get hit by a car. There are no sidewalks in the area which I think is just terrible. Areas, especially where there is public transportation, need to have sidewalks for the safety of walkers and drivers.

Too many stop signs, all this stopping and starting is tough on the brake system and the fuel consumption. Too many three way stops even though there is a clear sight line on all intersecting streets. There are three way stops on an intersection where there are one to five houses on the intersecting street. The traffic coming out of the side street with three or four houses would be perhaps ten vehicles a day all the while the traffic on the main street has to stop 24/7. Also there are stop signs at the bottom of a valley so you have to stop before you start up the hill - more fuel. Penn DOT says that stop signs can not be used to control speed and a traffic study must be done before a stop sign is installed these items should be considered before more stop signs pop up like mushrooms. There are so many stops signs that some people stop where there is no stop sign. My visitors from out of town can not believe the number of stop signs that is difficult to explain.

Air quality, odor nuisance, firepits and bonfires. I feel Bethel Park could relying too much on the ACHD to address issues with wood burning. Those policies and regulations from the ACHD are not being enforced by the ACHD. Unfortunately, my family is negatively affected by wood burning in stoves, bonfires, firepits, etc. I believe that there are many alternatives to wood (specially in a suburban environment) that don’t have adverse health effects on one’s health. Our air quality in Bethel Park should be a priority. Pittsburgh area is one of the worse places in the United States for air a quality. Lung cancer rates are amongst the highest in the nation. The ACHD validates these claims as well the American Lung Association. I believe Bethel Park should increase the quality of life of all citizens by revisiting the topic of wood burning/odor nuisances to protect the health of those that are affected by someone else’s wood burning activities. I believe a commission should be started in order to come up with different ideas and approaches to dealing with this very important issue.

What should develop or happen during the next 10 years to make Bethel Park an even better place to live, work and visit? Like several of the others I would like to see an improved rec center much along the lines of USC. I would also like to see more activities for the young people of the community. A youth center would be nice. Also I would like to see the possible future buildings be more of a traditional design and not the George Jetson building Bethel loves so much. Case in point the High School design is hideous. They soon become dated looking.
